2027 Economic Analyst Intern (Long-term) - London

Location: London

Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest.

We advise across sectors and countries and we are one of the largest economic consultancies in Europe with more than 350 Economists based in our offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Dublin, London, Madrid, Paris and Prague. Owned entirely by our staff, our business attracts the best people and the most interesting work. We go beyond the numbers to find out what's really going on. Our clients enjoy objective advice, clearly expressed. With our help, they make better decisions and get better results.

About the role

Our analyst internship lasts 5–6 months and is typically for those who have completed their Bachelor's degree and are working towards or have completed a Master's degree with a strong focus on economics. It offers substantial exposure to economic consulting and the opportunity to contribute to real client projects.

You will receive support and feedback from experienced colleagues as you develop your analytical skills, confidence and understanding of consulting. We do not expect you to arrive knowing how to do everything.

What you'll be doing

With support from experienced colleagues, you could

Apply economic frameworks and empirical techniques to real-world client questions.

Work with data and evidence, using Excel and building skills in tools such as R.

Research unfamiliar markets or topics and identify what information matters.

Help clarify questions that are not fully defined and shape a sensible analytical approach.

Test assumptions, check results and explain what your analysis means.

Contribute to reports, presentations and project discussions.

Manage your tasks and deadlines, asking questions and raising risks when needed.

Collaborate with colleagues across teams and offices.

As you gain experience, we will encourage you to explain your reasoning, contribute ideas and take increasing ownership of your work.

Technology, including generative AI, can support research, coding, analysis, drafting and quality assurance. What matters is using these tools critically and responsibly: checking outputs, understanding limitations and remaining accountable for your work.

What you'll get out of it

Substantive, hands-on project experience in economic consulting.

Mentoring, feedback and opportunities to learn from economists across Frontier.

Practical analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.

Insight into a potential route towards a permanent Analyst position.

A collaborative and supportive environment where different perspectives are valued.

What we're looking for

You will be working towards or have completed an Economics-focused Master's degree, and have achieved or be predicted a 2:1 or above in an Economics-focused Bachelor's degree (or equivalent: Germany 2.0 or better, Netherlands 7.0+, France 14+, Spain 7.0+). You will also need to be fluent in the language of the office to which you are applying, except Brussels, where English is sufficient.

Beyond these requirements, we are interested in how you think, approach problems and learn. You may be someone who has:

A strong interest in microeconomics and applying economics to real-world problems.

Curiosity about unfamiliar subjects and a willingness to learn.

An ability to make sense of problems, ask useful questions and explain your thinking.

Care with data, evidence and the quality of analysis.

Initiative and ownership, alongside knowing when to seek guidance.

Collaboration, clear communication and good organisation.

Openness to feedback and a willingness to keep developing.

You should be comfortable using Excel for analysis. Familiarity with R is useful but not required. We welcome candidates who are curious about using new technology, including AI, effectively, critically and responsibly. Prior consulting or AI experience is not required. The academic and language requirements above are essential; we do not expect every other skill to be fully developed at the start of the internship.
