Join the Bio Innovation team for a paid summer internship focused on advancing cell and gene therapy research in hematology and rare diseases. You'll gain hands-on laboratory experience supporting innovative pipeline programs while working alongside scientists to generate insights that help drive the development of future therapies. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in biotechnology, biomedical research, cell and gene therapy, and drug development.
What You Will Do • Support research activities, including drug concept validation, target identification, and drug candidate validation, under the guidance of experienced scientists. • Perform laboratory experiments involving mammalian cell culture, human and mouse tissues, and other preclinical research techniques. • Assist with assay development and help identify opportunities to improve research processes and efficiency. • Analyze experimental data using scientific software, statistical tools, and other technology applications. • Collaborate with team members to interpret results, discuss findings, and support planning for future studies. • Present project outcomes, key learnings, and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.
What We Are Looking For • Rising sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related scientific field. • Strong interest in biomedical research, cell and gene therapy, rare diseases, or drug development. • Previous research, laboratory, internship, or project experience is preferred. • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. • Familiarity with data analysis, statistics, programming (e.g., Python, R), AI-enabled analytical approaches, or bioinformatics tools. • Ability to accurately document, analyze, and communicate scientific findings. • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Internship Requirements • Available to work for the part-time internship period from May 25, 2027, through August 20, 2027 (dates are flexible based on schools with quarters instead of semesters) • Able to work a fully on-site schedule and commute to the La Jolla, CA office as required. • Must live within a commutable distance of La Jolla, CA. • Authorized to work in the United States on a permanent and ongoing basis without sponsorship.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position will be $22.00 to $24.00 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered for this role at commencement of employment may vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, education (including applicable licenses and certifications, job-based knowledge, location, and other business and organizational needs.
