Job Summary The Student Nurse Extern Program provides senior nursing students with a paid, immersive clinical experience to deliver direct patient care under the supervision and mentorship of a dedicated 1:1 Registered Nurse (RN) Preceptor. Through this experience, externs will develop and refine nursing knowledge, clinical skills, critical thinking, and organizational competencies while caring for patients in a variety of practice settings throughout Monument Health.

This 10-week program consists of approximately 200 to 300 clinical hours and is designed to support the continued development of professional nursing practice through hands-on patient care experiences and engagement with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. In addition to developing clinical competence, the externship offers opportunities to build strong professional relationships and strengthen interdisciplinary teamwork while working alongside nurses, providers, support staff, and other healthcare professionals. These experiences help develop effective communication, care coordination, and teamwork skills within a patient-centered care environment. The Student Nurse Extern role offers one of the closest experiences to practicing as a nurse prior to graduation while remaining under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Externs should be prepared to work a variety of schedules, including day, night, weekend, and 12-hour shifts, based on unit and preceptor availability, and should plan for the externship to be their primary summer commitment.

Monument Health offers competitive wages and benefits on qualifying positions. Some of those benefits can include:

*Supportive work culture

*Retirement Plans, Health Savings Account, and Flexible Spending Account

*Instant pay is available for qualifying positions
