Arity - Data Science Intern (Core Telematics)

Location: USA - IL (Remote)

At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties. And for more than 90 years, our innovative drive has kept us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs. From advocating for seat belts, air bags and graduated driving laws, to being an industry leader in pricing sophistication, telematics, and, more recently, device and identity protection.

Job Description

Arity is a part of the Allstate Corporation, which means we have the same innovative drive that keeps us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs. We collect and analyze enormous amounts of data in order to provide cutting-edge solutions to companies invested in transportation.

Analytics

At Arity, our Analytics team is at the core of helping us transform mobility. They not only know how to analyze and find meaning within the data but are passionate about how it affects the end-users of our products. They work with a treasure trove of massive data sets every day—after all, Arity is constantly collecting and deciphering billions of miles of driving data. And as our data continues to grow by the second, our Analytics teammates grow right alongside it. We give them the opportunity to model and visualize that data to create innovative products, working side-by-side with our diverse product teams. The insights uncovered by the Analytics team help catalyze groundbreaking solutions for our customers and are a driving force in making transportation smarter, safer, and more useful for everyone. Personally, we think that’s pretty game-changing stuff.

The Role

As a Data Scientist Intern on the Core Telematics team, you'll get hands-on experience analyzing real-world sensor and driving event data collected from millions of trips. You'll work side-by-side with data scientists and engineers on projects — from exploratory analysis through prototyping — and present your findings to the broader team. This is an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to messy, large-scale data and see your work influence how Arity understands and improves the driving experience.

Responsibilities

Conduct exploratory data analysis and data cleaning techniques on large-scale sensor datasets to identify patterns, trends, labels, and data quality issues

Build clear visualizations and summaries that communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Prototype and evaluate models for detecting patterns or events in sensor data

Contribute clean, well-documented code and participate in the code review process alongside data scientists and engineers

Document methodology, findings, and recommendations in Confluence for the broader team

Required Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field

Proficiency in Python (e.g. pandas, numpy) for data analysis and manipulation

Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Matplotlib, Plotly, Folium)

Foundational understanding of statistics and exploratory data analysis techniques

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working through ambiguous, real-world data

Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, with a drive to dig into open-ended problems and ask good questions

Clear written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical work

Preferred Qualifications

Target Start Date: May/June 2027

Rising Junior or Senior

Coursework or project experience with time-series or sensor data

Working knowledge of SQL for querying large datasets

Exposure to machine learning concepts/libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, TensorFlow)

Experience with Git or other version control in a collaborative setting

Familiarity with big data tools (e.g. PySpark) or geospatial data is a plus

At Arity, great things happen when our people work together.
