Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s (BDS) Vertical Lift Mission Assurance Organization is seeking an Aerospace Safety Engineer to join our System Safety Engineering Team in Mesa, AZ, supporting the Attack Programs.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry Level (Level 1) or Associate (Level 2) System Safety Engineers

The Attack program is looking for a System Safety Engineer that can assess hazards across a broad range of Subsystems including Airframe, Electrical, Mechanical and Software.  The ideal candidate will have an Engineering degree, some experience with aviation or rotorcraft, and safety standards (ARP 4761 and MIL STD 882E).  Military experience is a plus along with strong technical writing and communication skills.

Primary responsibilities

Evaluates customer specifications and regulations, and assesses the design to develop safety requirements, constraints, and operating limits

Develops System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs)

Performs a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle, such as Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Aircraft and System Preliminary System Safety Analyses (PSSA), System Safety Analysis (SSA), Common Mode Analysis (CMA), Zonal Analysis, Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), Operational Health Hazard Analysis (OHHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), System Safety Risk Evaluations (SSRE) and Fault Tree Analyses (FTA).

Reviews engineering design specifications, test and manufacturing operations, change proposals, anomaly reports, and deviation/waiver requests for potential safety impacts

Collaborates with government, customers and program domain experts

Prepares presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews

Develops proposals, work statements, and specifications affecting system safety engineering scope and budget

Delivers oral and written system safety and risk presentations to peers, program management, senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience)

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

Level 1: Experience in an engineering discipline

Experience with aircraft systems (e.g., navigation, avionics, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatic, etc.) including operations and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience)

Level 2: 2+ years of experience in an engineering discipline

Experience conducting first flight readiness reviews or flight test mission assurance readiness reviews

Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform

Summary Pay Range

Entry Level (Level 1): $71,400 - $96,600

Associate (Level 2): $88,400 - $119,600
