POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Life Group Internship Program was developed to provide real workplace learning and growth opportunities for undergraduate students. Over the years the program has provided students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful, career-relevant work at National Life Group in preparation for full-time employment.

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you are in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days.  Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Financial Reporting team is seeking an intern interested in gaining hands-on experience in accounting and financial reporting. The intern will work closely with members of Financial Reporting and interact with other areas across the CFO organization, including Actuarial, Investment Accounting, Reinsurance, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, and other accounting teams.

This internship provides exposure to both GAAP and statutory reporting through meaningful assignments, team-based learning, and projects that help the intern understand how financial information is prepared, validated, analyzed, and communicated.

Assist with GAAP and statutory financial reporting activities, including financial statement linking, tie-outs, reconciliations, validation, and supporting schedules.

Support the preparation and review of MD&A, audited financial statements, and other financial reporting materials.

Complete assignments across multiple Financial Reporting areas, including GAAP, statutory, state reporting, and other specialized reporting areas.

Partner with Financial Reporting team members and cross-functional groups to learn how different areas contribute to the overall reporting process.

Participate in aspects of the monthly and quarterly financial reporting and close processes.

Gain exposure to National Life Group's transition to Workday and how ERP systems, data, and process changes affect financial reporting.

Complete an individual project that may incorporate accounting research, process improvement, technology or AI, or the application of academic concepts to a business or financial reporting topic.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Strong interest in accounting and financial reporting.

High level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.

Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn new tools, systems, and processes.
