Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Geospatial Apprentice to join the AECOM Site Survey & Investigation Specialist (ASSIST) team in Nottingham.
As an apprentice, you’ll develop hands-on skills across a wide range of geospatial, surveying, mapping, and digital data capture projects that support the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure across the UK. You'll work alongside surveyors, geomatics professionals, UAV pilots, mobile mapping specialists, and engineers, gaining experience from field data acquisition through to processing, analysis, visualisation, and reporting.
Our team plays a vital role in capturing and managing spatial information that supports informed engineering and asset management decisions. You'll be part of a collaborative and innovative environment where your work contributes directly to the development and maintenance of critical national infrastructure assets while embracing emerging geospatial technologies and digital delivery methods.
As an apprentice, you will:
Support geospatial surveying and data capture activities, including topographical surveys, GNSS surveys, laser scanning, mobile mapping, UAV surveys, and other reality capture technologies.
Assist in the processing, quality assurance, and delivery of spatial datasets.
Learn to use industry-standard geospatial software, mapping tools, and digital engineering systems.
Help create models, drawings, visualisations, and geospatial outputs for internal and external clients.
Participate in site visits, inspections, and field data collection activities across a variety of infrastructure sectors.
Gain experience in reality capture technologies including terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping, photogrammetry, LiDAR, and UAV-based survey techniques.
Work collaboratively with engineering, environmental, geoscience, and design teams to support integrated project delivery.
Contribute to digital delivery, innovation, sustainability, and safety initiatives throughout project lifecycles.
Work towards academic and professional development through an appropriate Geospatial Degree Apprenticeship programme, leading to recognised professional accreditation.
Qualifications
This role is ideal for school/college leavers (post A-Level) who can demonstrate the following:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English, and a science subject.
Three A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade B or above, preferably including a science subject such as Geology, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, or Maths (required for Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship).
A genuine interest in surveying, mapping, geospatial technologies, digital engineering, infrastructure, or site survey / investigation work.
Some experience, work shadowing, or exposure to surveying, geography, construction, engineering, environmental, or technology-related activities (preferred).
An interest in emerging technologies such as UAVs, laser scanning, LiDAR, GIS, digital twins, reality capture, and spatial data management.
Strong attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills.
A practical, curious, and problem-solving mindset.
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A full UK driving licence (for manual vehicles).
Additional Information
Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible since CVs will be reviewed, and candidates selected on a rolling recruitment basis for either immediate or advanced offer start.

You must have the right to work in the UK.
