Summary
Media over QUIC Transport (MoQT) is an emerging publish/subscribe transport designed for scalable, low-latency delivery over QUIC. This internship will investigate Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) streaming over MoQT using the open-source imquic and OpenMoQ libraries. The work will integrate established ABR approaches and evaluate how MoQT-specific mechanisms, especially relay-based delivery and track switching, can improve adaptation. A central research objective will be to compare subscriber-side and relay-side ABR and to explore cooperative ABR, where the subscriber contributes playback and QoE information while the relay contributes fine-grained transport and network observations.
You will have access to AI Tools to assist you in your work. You will work in collaboration with experts from the InterDigital Video Lab.
Responsibilities
Set up and extend a MoQT experimentation platform based on imquic and OpenMoQ, including publisher, relay and subscriber components.
Integrate representative ABR algorithms, such as throughput-based, buffer-based and hybrid/model-predictive approaches.
Implement and compare subscriber-driven track switching and relay/sender-side adaptation under controlled and varying network conditions.
Explore cooperative ABR combining subscriber-side playback/QoE information with relay-side transport observations such as throughput, queueing, RTT/ACK behavior and congestion state.
Design experiments covering bandwidth variations, latency changes, competing traffic and representative access-network conditions.
Evaluate delivered quality, rebuffering, live latency, bitrate stability, reaction time, switching overhead and overall Quality of Experience (QoE).
Analyze the limits of existing ABR methods in the MoQT context and propose adaptations or new MoQT-aware algorithms when justified by the results.
Research focus | Can MoQT benefit from cooperative adaptation, with the subscriber reporting playback/QoE state and the relay exploiting transport-level information to coordinate bitrate decisions?
