Are you mechanically minded, enjoy working with your hands, and looking to build a long-term trade career? SGS, Gidlow, is seeking a motivated Mechanical Apprentice to join our team and gain hands-on experience. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining a nationally recognised trade qualification while working alongside experienced tradespeople on geothermal and industrial equipment.

We are looking for someone with the right attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Be Doing

Assist with the maintenance, repair and installation of geothermal pipelines, valves and steamfield equipment.

Learn practical fitting and mechanical skills while working alongside experienced tradespeople.

Support planned maintenance and outage activities to help keep operations running smoothly.

Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Learn to read technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.

Carry out inspections and quality checks under supervision.

Maintain accurate records of completed work and training activities.

Follow all health, safety and environmental requirements.

Actively participate in apprenticeship training and work towards achieving your trade qualification.

Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

A genuine interest in mechanical trades, engineering or hands-on work

Previous experience in a practical role

Completion of a mechanical, engineering or trade pre-trade course would be highly regarded

Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn

Positive attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic

Good communication and teamwork skills

Commitment to working safely and following procedures

Full New Zealand driver's licence
