IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Ontario, California. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry while gaining hands-on experience through real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants.
In this role, you'll support project budgets, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help meet project goals and client expectations across education-focused work. You'll contribute in a collaborative environment that also supports broader public-sector and institutional work, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
Assist with design portions of mechanical systems projects according to code and IMEG standards
Assist with researching commercially available equipment
Assist with maintaining client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files
Assist with coordinating design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement
What You'll Bring
Required Education
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Experience
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong interest in design consulting
Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
About the Team
Service mix is centered on education work across K-12 and higher education, with a notable supporting presence in healthcare and public-sector projects. The recurring pattern is full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for classrooms, labs, additions, modernization efforts, and barrier-removal work, with fire protection and technology showing up frequently on larger assignments.
They also handle medical renovations, municipal/public-safety work, EV and power upgrades, commissioning, security, audio/visual, and occasional civil or survey support. Overall, the portfolio suggests a team that is especially strong in school modernization, science/lab environments, and California public-institution upgrades.

State of California Hourly Range: $22.00 – $24.00
Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
