The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Dermatology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Assistant 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Assistant 1 (A) contributes to research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. The Research Assistant 1 (A) performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.

Prepares correspondence and answers phones.

Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.

Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.

Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.

Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

Provides protocol-based support for dermatology research under the direction of Prof. Lars E. French, including literature reviews, bibliographies, regulatory/IRB materials, study forms, and maintenance of research records.

Supports preparation and editing of manuscripts, abstracts, educational materials, and the U.S.-guideline adaptation of the handbook Application of Immunomodulatory Systemic Therapies in Daily Dermatological Practice.

Assists with approved dermatologic research specimen collection, labeling, transport, and documentation at authorized UM clinic locations.

Supports research involving collection and analysis of dermatologic specimens, following approved protocols, biosafety procedures, and faculty supervision.

Maintains study logs, source documentation, regulatory files, and supply inventories; protects confidential information and complies with HIPAA, human-subjects, University, and departmental requirements.

Assists with scientific correspondence and identification of appropriate external contacts or potential funding opportunities for approved academic projects, without authority to make commitments on behalf of the University.

Participates in departmental research meetings, seminars, and educational activities and collaborates with investigators, clinical staff, and research personnel.

Shadows Prof. French in clinic two half-days per week. Any EPIC documentation, medical-scribe support, patient interaction, or specimen activity is performed only when authorized, trained, and directly supervised; the position does not include independent diagnosis, treatment, prescribing, or clinical practice.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
