Location: Pueblo, CO, United States Department: Intern
Overview:
Support railcar testing, instrumentation, and sensor development, from test setup through data acquisition. Assist with component modeling and use analytical and AI-assisted tools to turn test data into engineering insights.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Support track and lab testing, including railcar inspection, instrumentation, sensor installation, calibration, and test execution. • Assist with developing sensors and setting up data acquisition (DAQ) systems. • Create CAD models and drawings, run FEA simulations, and check results through testing. • 3D scan and 3D print products and prototypes. • Analyze test data using Excel, Power BI, and AI-assisted tools to find trends. • Prepare reports and present findings and project status to the group.

Internship Goals: • Complete assigned testing and project tasks, following TTX standard work procedures and safety practices. • Gain hands-on experience with railcar instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition (DAQ) systems. • Apply engineering coursework to real-world testing, modeling, and analysis. • Use analytical and AI-assisted tools to turn test data into clear, supported conclusions. • Give regular status updates and present final project results to the department.
Qualifications: • Full time students pursuing Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Qualities Possessed by Candidate: • Basic knowledge of statics, mechanics, and strength of materials • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, and instrumentation (e.g., strain gauges, accelerometers, data acquisition (DAQ) systems) • Some experience with CAD modeling and FEA • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel and Power BI • Basic use of AI tools for data analysis, including checking AI-generated results • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills • Eager to learn new technologies and develop hands-on skills.
