Mayo Career Site USRochester · Posted 3h ago
Location: Rochester, MN, United States Department: Research
A Research Fellow position is now available in the Neuroregeneration and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Isobel Scarisbrick. Our team is integrated with the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics and the Center for Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology. Our research focuses on fundamental mechanisms of neural repair and intersects molecular and systems neuroscience with an eye towards translational significance. The research is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, and MN State research grants. The PI is dedicated to the career advancement of each team member.
The successful candidate will perform research that:
Spans cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural injury and regeneration
Focuses on murine modeling, including neurodevelopmental disorders, neurotrauma, neurodegeneration and demyelinating diseases
Utilizes transgenic mouse models, stem cell engraftment, and pharmacologic approaches to unleash neural regeneration
The project will require the implementation of several technologies, from in vitro studies with primary murine and human iPSC-derived neural stem cells to in vivo experiments in murine models.
Opportunities to integrate studies that utilize human specimens and patient records is also available
Eligible candidates will have:
Must have a Ph.D. in appropriate field, such as Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology and/or Immunology (but other Ph.D. degree emphasis may be considered)
Strong skills in molecular and cell biology techniques, animal handling, primary cultures and quantitative analysis
Experience working with murine genetic models
Working knowledge of models of neural injury and regeneration
High quality research publications
A competitive desire to apply for National research grants
Willingness to lead independent research projects and to participate in team centered research studies
Regardless of Ph.D. degree emphasis, experience in neuroscience would be considered an asset, as would a particular interest in neural regeneration.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
Requirements for completeness of application:
Cover letter summarizing interest and qualifications for the position
Current curriculum vitae with bibliography
Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.
Please also be prepared to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.
