Step into the forefront of investment operations innovation with the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) in Victoria, BC. We are eagerly seeking a forward-thinking Cash Management Co-op student/intern for an 8-month term (January to August 2027). This is a pivotal time to join us, as our team continues to grow as active managers of cash and the primary voice in short-term funding decisions within the organization. Our Cash Management team within the Investment Operations department takes a proactive stance in managing client liquidity and shaping the organization’s short-term funding strategies. As a co-op student/intern, you will support high volumes of complex cash activities, contribute to daily liquidity reporting and forecasting, create concise documentation, and assist in the reconciliation of cash across BCI. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of financial models and help improve the team’s existing modelling, all while stepping in on key tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of our operations amid rapid technological advancements.

Who you will work with

Investment Operations (IO) delivers institutional-grade capability across cash management, derivatives and collateral, foreign exchange, trade settlement, corporate actions, and custodian oversight. Partnering with BCI's investment teams to design and execute end-to-end solutions that translate investment strategy into operational reality. The department manages this capability entirely in-house, supported by internally built quantitative models, AI-powered liquidity tools, and automated workflows that operate at the forefront of the industry. The department is organized into three branches: Investment Services and Settlements; Markets and Liquidity; and Financial Engineering.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Supporting the management of complex cash activities amidst our evolving technical infrastructure

Assisting with daily liquidity reporting and cash forecasting, working primarily in Bloomberg

Assisting with the reconciliation of cash across BCI

Creating detailed reports and developing concise documentation to support cash management processes

Contributing to the development of financial models and helping improve the team’s existing modelling

Applying AI tools to support analysis, model development, and workflow automation

Executing testing procedures and stepping in on key operational tasks as necessary

Contributing to the team’s active cash management and short-term funding decision-making

Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the department and management teams

Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the team

REQUIRED SKILLS

A fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment-related disciplines is essential

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and strong attention to detail, as small details can carry large impacts

Has an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn

A learner’s mindset, with a keen interest in continuous professional development

A team-first mindset, and an interest in working in a high-performing environment where ideas are shared, challenged, and improved together

Quick adaptability to new technologies and changing environments

Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office; knowledge of R-studio, Python, or Power BI is a plus

Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Familiarity with Bloomberg would be an asset
