We are looking for candidates interested in internships in a range of academic degrees for different areas of our business in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador at our Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) operations.  Relocation to Labrador City is required for this role. Accommodation and relocation assistance to Labrador City and return upon end of internship will be provided.

Engineering – All degrees

Sciences – Geoscience, Earth Science

Technology – Data Science, Computing, Robotics

We are actively recruiting university students to join our 2027 Winter Internship Program and experience day-to-day-life at Rio Tinto. Following the internship, you may have an opportunity to be considered for a future permanent grad role with Rio Tinto.

What you’ll bring

At least one year completed in your field of study (Bachelor’s degree) or currently pursuing your master’s degree

Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead

Flexibility and autonomy

Good communication skills and ability to work in a team

Where will you be working?

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This internship is based in Labrador City.
