About the role

We're looking for motivated Diesel Fitter Apprentices to join Rio Tinto's Operations in Weipa. Starting in early 2027, these roles offer the opportunity to build a rewarding trade career while gaining hands-on experience across a range of operational areas.

This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic self-starters who enjoy working with machinery, solving problems, and learning practical skills in a dynamic mining environment.

As a Diesel Fitter Apprentice, you will:

Develop practical trade skills and technical knowledge in the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment and plant.

Work towards completing a nationally recognised apprenticeship through a combination of on-the-job learning, internal training and external study (including TAFE).

Learn from experienced tradespeople and industry specialists while receiving ongoing support from dedicated apprentice mentors.

Contribute to safe, reliable and environmentally responsible operations as part of a collaborative team.

Gain exposure to a variety of equipment, systems and maintenance practices used across Rio Tinto's Weipa operations.

Live in Weipa or the surrounding region.

Have completed, or be currently completing, Year 12.

Be available to work across both Amrun and Andoom locations in different rotations
