Intern-Undergraduate - UW La Crosse students only

Location: La Crosse, WI, United States Department: Administration & Administrative Operations

The primary purpose of the Undergraduate Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern and the sponsoring educational facility. Placement in our internship program does not provide financial assistance with relocation, housing, or transportation. Interns must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

The Community Engagement team is seeking students from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Public Health Program for an internship offering hands-on experience in community engagement and population health within a health care setting.

The intern will gain exposure to the breadth of the Community Engagement team’s work, including how we collaborate internally across the health system and externally with community partners to identify and address community health needs.

Working alongside the Community Engagement team, the intern will have opportunities to:

Learn how public health and community engagement are integrated within a health system.

Participate in community health needs assessment and improvement activities.

Support initiatives addressing community health priorities and health-related social needs.

Participate in meetings and projects with internal teams and community partners.

Assist with community outreach, events, education, and engagement activities.

Gain exposure to community benefit, partnership development, and program evaluation.

Contribute to projects based on team priorities and the student’s interests and learning goals.

This internship is designed to provide broad, practical experience across the Community Engagement team’s work, while helping the student build professional skills and see how public health principles are put into practice in partnership with the communities we serve.

This internship will be January through May of 2027.

This opening is for current UW La Crosse students only.
