Medical Lab Assistant - CPT - Los Angeles

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States Department: Pathology / Laboratory

The Medical Lab Assistant, CPT functions with general directions from senior technical personnel and reports to the Laboratory Manager. Responsibilities include performing blood draws, supply inventory, specimen storage, and assisting the processing bench as needed for lunch and end-of-day coverage. Performs all job duties with sensitivity to the patient population(s) being served.

Maintains and understand the daily phlebotomy schedule in the EMR

Prepares for patient blood draw based on the physician orders in the EMR

Understands where to locate and how to comply with test collection requirements for each laboratory facility performing testing, including appropriate kits and paperwork required for esoteric testing

Collects the appropriate tubes required for each test order

Collects Specimens while following policy and procedure and maintaining the integrity of the process with strict adherence to patient identification policy

Effectively communicates with physicians and physician teams when order clarification is necessary

Adheres to hygiene and safety procedures

Inventories supplies for the phlebotomy area, restock as necessary

Performs a weekly expiration date check of all phlebotomy supplies

Rotates stored patient specimens from refrigerator to freezer storage and discard old samples

Assists the processing bench as needed for coverage during lunch and end-of-day duties

Education

High School Diploma/GED General Education - minimum

Experience

1 year Phlebotomy and lab assistant experience with demonstrated competency in the job duties listed above - minimum

3 years Phlebotomy and lab assistant experience with demonstrated competency in the job duties listed above - preferred

Licenses and Certifications

Phlebotomy Certification CA - Upon Hire minimum State of California CDPH LFS

Basic Life Support (BLS) - 60 Days, minimum Must be issued by American Heart Association
