We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.
Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Engineering Summer Intern to join our manufacturing team at a heavy-duty truck and engine production facility. This role provides hands-on experience in quality systems, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. The intern will support quality engineers in analyzing production data, investigating defects, and driving improvements that ensure product reliability and customer satisfaction.
This internship is open to candidates located in or willing to relocate to any of the following locations: Grand Rapids (Kentwood), MI; Tooele, UT; Hibbing, MN; or Detroit, MI. One internship position will be filled at the location that best aligns with business needs and candidate availability.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
Assist in analyzing warranty, defect, and manufacturing data to identify trends and root causes
Support investigations into quality issues, including nonconformances and production defects
Participate in root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Analysis
Help develop and update quality documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and PFMEAs
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain) to support corrective and preventive actions
Assist with internal audits and compliance to ISO 9001 quality standards
Support continuous improvement projects focused on reducing defects and improving process capability
Compile reports and present findings to quality and plant leadership
Participate in shop floor activities to understand production processes and quality checkpoints
Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs
Knowledge You Should Bring
Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field) from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality principles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to interpret data and identify trends using Excel or similar tools.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact with cross-functional stakeholders.
