Location: WI Madison

An internship with American Family Insurance is a great opportunity to build your skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10 to 14 week program that starts in mid to late May and ends in August.

During your internship, you'll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities. You'll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to an AmFam office location.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00 Compensation Maximum: $25.00

As a PMO Department intern, you will support the Sales Performance, Insights & Operations team through projects and initiatives focused on sales, service, operational effectiveness, and business growth. You will assist with planning, coordination, process improvements, and cross-functional collaboration while gaining exposure to key business operations and strategic priorities.

Primary Accountabilities

Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture and structure to support your work.

Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.

Support project managers with planning, coordination, and execution of key business initiatives.

Track project milestones, action items, risks, and dependencies to help keep projects on schedule.

Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, document decisions, and follow up on action items.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and support project deliverables.

Assist with process improvement efforts and the implementation of operational best practices.

Prepare project status updates, presentations, and communications for stakeholders.

Contribute to initiatives focused on sales, service, operational effectiveness, and business growth.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD.

Major/program must align with internship role.

Strong organizational and project coordination skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Collaboration and relationship-building across teams

Problem-solving and critical thinking mindset

Attention to detail and follow-through

Ability to facilitate meetings, document decisions, and track action items

Interest in sales, customer experience, operations, and business strategy

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Copilot)

Additional Information To ensure a strong start, all employees participate in our New Employee Orientation during their first week.  This experience is held in person at our Madison, WI Headquarters or one of our AmFam core locations to help you connect with our mission, meet key team members and build relationships that support your growth.  At times, sessions may be delivered virtually based on scheduling and availability.
