About the role

As an Apprentice Piping Designer, you will receive development training to become proficient in the design of piping systems using sophisticated 3D modelling software packages across a range of diverse projects. Costain is positioning itself to become a key player in the transition to green and sustainable energy solutions. Our projects include Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Generation, Storage and Distribution from Concept, FEED and Detailed Design, through to Construction and Commissioning. For this role you will be enrolled onto the L3 Engineering Design Technician apprenticeship.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll be supported every step of the way—by your line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and your training provider (which could be a college, a university, or an independent training provider).

You’ll also have dedicated time to study with your provider. Your on-site work will be matched to the needs of the project, and it’s designed to ensure you’re building the technical skills and competencies you need to successfully complete your apprenticeship.

Responsibility

Work closely with engineers to design piping systems that meet project specifications

Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)

Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards

Collaborate with project managers to ensure designs are completed on time and within budget

Support site visits to gather information and verify existing conditions

Work under the guidance of senior designers

Build piping models from laser scans and site surveys

Perform piping clash checks

Minimum five GCSE’s grade 4/C or above including Maths and English (or equivalent)

About you

Passionate about engineering with a willingness to learn and develop
