Use your communications and storytelling skills and make a real impact. The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an Employee Communications Co-op/Intern for the Winter 2027 work term (January to April) to join the Employee Communications team in our Global Communications Department, supporting the development and execution of internal communications strategies, events, and content that helps tell the story of BCI to its growing employee base. Be a part of the work we do, generating more than returns, and creating real possibilities for the people and communities our clients serve.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
BCI manages a globally diversified portfolio of assets valued at $313.7 billion and is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors. We invest globally to support pension and other funds for more than 30 clients based in British Columbia. We are proud to have been chosen as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and BC’s Top Employers. These national and provincial competitions recognize employers who offer exceptional workplaces for their employees.
The Employee Communications Co-op/Intern will work within our Employee Communications team, part of BCI’s Global Communications Department. This is a great opportunity to learn and apply your knowledge by supporting the development and implementation of internal communications strategies, helping plan corporate events, and sharpening your writing skills to tell BCI's story to employees across the organization, clients, and the public.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Employee Communications is essential to any organization, especially one that continues to grow in size and complexity, like BCI. Our team partners with Human Resources, Technology, Finance, Legal, Corporate Risk and Audit, and Investment Operations to support their communications needs and build a strong, strategic yet conversational narrative for employees, clients, and the public.
We keep all audiences in mind. Our primary channel is our Bull and Bear intranet, built for employees, but we also produce content for clients and the public through our website, LinkedIn, and client briefing notes. We even support employee and client events like Town Halls. Across every channel, we aim to present information in a compelling, succinct way that informs, inspires, clarifies, recognizes, and builds a shared understanding of BCI, creating pride and commitment among employees and awareness externally.
The team produces strategic content in a variety of formats for BCI's growing employee base, including written, audio, video, and visual content. Our primary channel is BCI's intranet, which houses reference materials and daily news, along with support for corporate events, internal communications strategy, communications counsel, and employee- and public-facing publications, such as our LinkedIn account.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Review, write, and edit compelling content for internal and external audiences across the corporate intranet, LinkedIn, and the BCI website, liaising with subject-matter experts, writing copy, coordinating approvals, creating corresponding visuals, and building digital content such as videos.
Lead an audit of our current content and content requests as we develop a new Employee Communications content strategy.
Research communication campaigns that use a multi-channel approach and help us test potential future communications channels.
Support the Employee Communications team with the planning, development, and execution of corporate events such as knowledge series sessions and Town Halls.
Provide document, image, and video editing support for the Employee Communications team, as required.
Contribute to other initiatives as needed during the co-op term, such as news content, video work, and scripting.
