Location: Effingham, IL

At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Position Summary

The Compliance Intern will provide assistance to the Compliance Department with various recurring tasks as well as special projects.

Primary Accountabilities

Support compliance monitoring, regulatory research, administrative projects, and the development of regulatory testing and reporting resources.

Assist with developing regulatory testing, checklists, and reporting structures.

Support process improvements and the development of procedures related to compliance testing and monitoring.

Research state-specific regulations that may affect Midland as the Bank grows and help organize findings into a working reference document.

Assist with regulatory research and summarize findings on unfamiliar topics in a clear and useful format.

Gain exposure to federal banking regulations, regulatory examinations, monitoring programs, and consumer protection requirements.

Learn how Compliance, Risk, Audit, and business units work together to control risk and meet regulatory obligations.

Develop an understanding of the progression from regulation and requirement through bank process, control, testing, exception, and corrective action.

Participate in learning and job-shadowing opportunities across Compliance, including BSA, Fraud, and Operational Risk, as appropriate.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience

The internship will run for Summer of 2027 beginning mid-May and ending early August.

Able to work a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Must reside local to Effingham, IL and report to the Effingham office.

Enrolled in a degree program with courses of study including Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, or a related field at a college or university with at least 2 years completed.

Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn.

Comfort researching unfamiliar subjects and summarizing findings.

Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and working with data is preferred.

Exposure to artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, is helpful but not required.

Works well in team environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
