Externship in Democracy, Speech & Technology with ACLU NorCal Legal Advocacy Department. Open to law school or graduate students; part-time or full-time (minimum 16 hours/week) for Spring term, typically 12–14 weeks per term. Depending on location, externs may work in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid model; remote work is available for those not in proximity to the three California offices (San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno). Academic credit is required. Externs engage in legal and policy research, drafting reports and court documents, and may attend hearings; opportunities to work across department issue areas and to participate in meetings with policymakers. Applications require PDF with cover letter, resume, and writing sample; deadlines vary by term, with open-ended status until filled.
