Job Description
The SAGE facility is a hub for discovery, collaboration, innovation, and research. Located in Stead, about 10 miles north of the University of Nevada, Reno campus, our large laboratory spaces bring together multiple disciplines to address real-world challenges and advance scientific knowledge.
We are seeking motivated student applicants to join our pool of talented individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience to assist our researchers and contribute to innovative research projects.
What You Will Do
Support research and technical projects through activities such as:
Assisting with computer science, engineering, and interdisciplinary research projects
Developing, testing, and maintaining software, scripts, or computational tools
Supporting data collection, processing, analysis, and visualization
Assisting with laboratory systems, equipment, and research technology
Troubleshooting technical issues and developing solutions
Documenting research activities, procedures, and results
Working collaboratively with faculty, researchers, engineers, and other student researchers
Learning new technical skills and applying classroom knowledge to real-world research

About the Facility
The SAGE facility at the University of Nevada in Reno is an ~180,000 sq. ft facility dedicated to advancing our scientific understanding of extreme environments, and the technologies we use to reach and diagnose such conditions. We have a two-million volt and one million ampere pulsed power generator with a 100 nanosecond rise time, used to explore plasma phenomena and generate bright sources of radiation as diagnostic tools. We have also just installed multiple hypervelocity launchers, or cannons, used to create steady shock waves and accurately determine the equation of state and strength of materials, improving our understanding of planet formation, impact crater formation, and planetary defense.
Required Qualifications
This grant requires that the person selected for this position be a U.S. citizen.
Current undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno
Major in Computer Science & Engineering or a related field
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
Must be in junior or senior standing
Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the semester
The job site is not on main campus. Must be able to commute to the SAGE building: 5625 Fox Ave Reno, NV 89506.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate with the following are encouraged to apply:
Programming or software development experience
Experience with data analysis, computational methods, or technical projects
Experience with Python, C/C++, MATLAB, Java, or other programming languages
Experience with version control, Linux, databases, machine learning, or related technologies
Previous research, internship, laboratory, or project experience
Schedule
10 hours per week

Student Employee Level 2 $17.50/hour
