Transportation Planning Intern, you will gain practical experience in international logistics, transportation planning, and global trade operations. You will work closely with transportation providers, warehouse teams, and supply chain professionals to support the efficient movement of export shipments worldwide.

Throughout the internship, you will contribute to shipment planning activities, optimize container utilization, assist with export documentation, and help ensure on-time delivery of customer orders. This role provides valuable exposure to the complexities of global transportation and international supply chain operations.

Work Format: This is a hybrid internship opportunity based in the Chicagoland area. Interns are expected to work both on-site and remotely throughout the program. Candidates must be able to work on-site as required for the duration of the internship. Relocation and housing assistance are not provided, and fully remote work is not available. #LI-Hybrid

Duration: Approximately 12 weeks, Summer 2027

As our Transportation Planning Intern, you will:

Assist with planning and coordinating international export shipments to support customer delivery requirements.

Utilize Excel-based planning tools and spreadsheets to optimize container utilization and maximize transportation efficiency.

Support the development of weekly shipping plans by reviewing order volume, shipment priorities, and transportation schedules.

Coordinate with warehouse operations to ensure orders are prepared, staged, and shipped according to plan.

Communicate with transportation providers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders regarding shipment schedules and transportation requirements.

Prepare and validate export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, shipping instructions, and other international shipping documents.

Monitor shipment status and assist in resolving transportation and documentation issues to minimize shipping delays.

Support data analysis and reporting related to transportation performance, container utilization, and export operations.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on transportation planning, logistics execution, and operational efficiency.

Work alongside experienced supply chain and logistics professionals on daily export operations and strategic projects.

Participate in a 12-week cross-functional case study project, culminating in a presentation to senior leaders, stakeholders, and managers.

Attend team and departmental meetings to gain exposure to broader business operations and share project updates.

What Life Fitness / Hammer Strength is looking for in our Transportation Planning Intern:

Must reside in the Chicagoland area and be available to work a hybrid schedule throughout the internship.

Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program with an expected graduation date in 2028 or 2029.

Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, International Business, or a related field.

Strong academic standing preferred, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.

Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with spreadsheets, data analysis, and reporting.

Interest in international logistics, transportation planning, global trade, supply chain operations, or export management.

Familiarity with transportation, logistics, or import/export concepts is preferred but not required.

The base wage range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $19.00 - $23.00 per hour and includes eligibility for overtime.
